The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office IX hosted a special screening of “Boses”, an advocacy film produced by Erasto Films as a kick-off event to the 2017 National Women’s Month Celebration which is celebrated annually every March.

The film shows a moving story of a boy who went through excruciating violence in the hands of his father and the importance of rehabilitation in the recovery processes.

This activity is an advocacy tool to raise awareness on issues related to families and Violence Against Women and Children (VAWC). The highly-acclaimed and recommended film shall form part and support of the agency in the Gender and Development activities in Zamboanga Peninsula region.

Almost 300 participants from various sectors have attended the special screening of the said movie which was held in Mindpro Cinema. Present during the screening were representatives from Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Immigration, Civil Service Commission, PNP, ZCPO, PNP-AVSEU IX, PCTC WMFO, WCPD, WCPC-MFU, Visayan Forum Inc., DSWD staff, and Tetuan Central School pupils.

DSWD-Sectoral Focal, Maria Socorro Macaso, calls for public to support the advocacy by taking part in the information dissemination and awareness campaigns and reportage of any incidence of abuse and violence committed against women and children.

Other events such as media guesting, health awareness orientation, beauty and wellness activities are also lined-up to celebrate the beauty, femininity and power of women. All of these activities are anchored on this year’s theme, “We make Change work for Women.”

As a catalyst of change in the society, DSWD adheres to its mandate to be at the forefront in promoting and securing the welfare of the public particularly of the vulnerable sectors.###
