In response to the regular occurrences of both the natural and human-induced calamities, the Department of Social Welfare and Development in partnership with the Office of the Civil Defense Region IX conducted an intensive Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Training to Kalahi CIDSS-NCDDP Area Coordinators and RPMO Staff on February 20-24, 2017 at Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte.

The CBDRRM roll-out training to Kalahi CIDSS NCDDP Staff aims to ensure that disaster-risk reduction is considered a local priority, to identify, assess, and monitor disaster risks and enhance early warning systems, to use knowledge, innovation, and education to build a culture of safety and resilience at all levels,
to reduce the underlying risk factors, and to strengthen disaster preparedness for effective response and recovery at all levels, from the local to the national.

Deputy Regional Program Manager Elpidio Lapad pointed out the role of the Area Coordinators in mobilizing people, managing action and planning for immediate response when or during disaster strikes as managers of their respective areas.

The activity will provide Area Coordinators knowledge in responding to emergency or disaster and can eventually help train people to respond to emergency situations in their communities.

The 5-day training includes steps in conducting Community-Based Disaster Risk Reduction Management, preparedness, prevention and mitigation mechanisms, disaster response and preparation for rehab and recovery and action planning.###
