Zamboanga City – The community of Barangay Guinlin celebrated a significant milestone as the newly constructed footbridge was officially turned over in a ceremony held recently. The project, made possible through the 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐒𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐖𝐞𝐥𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 (𝐃𝐒𝐖𝐃) 𝐊𝐀𝐋𝐀𝐇𝐈-𝐂𝐈𝐃𝐒𝐒 𝐊𝐚𝐩𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐲𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐭 𝐊𝐚𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐚 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐚𝐲 (𝐊𝐊𝐁) 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦, stands as a testament to the power of collaboration between local leaders, volunteers, and national agencies.
The footbridge, which addresses long-standing mobility challenges in the area, was realized through the joint efforts of the Municipal Local Government Unit (MLGU) of Tigbao, led by Mayor Hon. PLT Eleazar Carcallas, Ret., and the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU), headed by Hon. Elmer Ebarle.
The project was implemented with a total cost of Php658,260.15, including an Php8,000.00 counterpart contribution from the Municipal and Barangay Local Government Units.
Emotions ran high as community volunteers shared their journey—from planning to construction—highlighting the struggles and triumphs that came with bringing their dream to life. “𝑫𝒊𝒍𝒊 𝒎𝒂𝒔𝒂𝒃𝒐𝒕 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒈𝒊𝒃𝒂𝒕𝒊 𝒔𝒂 𝒎𝒈𝒂 𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒖𝒏𝒕𝒆𝒆𝒓𝒔,” Eleazar Carcallas, (Ret P/Lt), Municipal Mayor, Tigbao, Zamboanga del Sur, holding back tears of joy. “𝑵𝒂 𝒉𝒖𝒎𝒂𝒏𝒂 𝒈𝒚𝒖𝒅 𝒂𝒏𝒈 𝒈𝒊𝒑𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒂𝒏𝒅𝒐𝒚 𝒏𝒈𝒂 𝒕𝒖𝒍𝒂𝒚,” (𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘷𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘦𝘳𝘴’ 𝘦𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘣𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘥 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘧𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦,) he added.
The footbridge is expected to improve access to education, healthcare, and local commerce, ensuring safer passage for residents, especially during floods and heavy rains. The community has also pledged to maintain and protect the structure through collective effort.
“𝑨𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒅𝒐 𝒔𝒐 𝒍𝒊𝒕𝒕𝒍𝒆; 𝒕𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒘𝒆 𝒄𝒂𝒏 𝒅𝒐 𝒔𝒐 𝒎𝒖𝒄𝒉,” Mayor Carcallas remarked, echoing the spirit of unity that made the project possible.
With the successful turnover, Barangay Guinlin now looks forward to a future of enhanced connectivity and shared progress.
