Archie Toribio’s journey from a life of poverty to becoming a licensed criminologist is a testament to his resilience, determination, and the transformative power of education. As a beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) and an Enhanced Student Grants-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA) scholar, Archie overcame numerous hindrances to achieve his dreams.

Growing up in a big, poor family, Archie faced daily hardships. His parents, both laborers, struggled to make ends meet. The family’s income was barely enough to cover basic needs, let alone education expenses. Despite these challenges, Archie was a bright and determined student, always eager to learn and excel in his studies.

When Archie’s family started receiving benefits from the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps), things started to turn around for him. His fundamental educational needs, including books, clothing, and daily allowances, were satisfied thanks to the financial support of the 4Ps program. Archie was able to concentrate more on his studies thanks to this help, which also lessened some of the financial strain on his family.

Recognizing his academic potential and determination, 4Ps City Link Ma. Kathrine Datu knew that she needed to do more to be able to assist the family through Archie’s education. She facilitated the scholarship of Archie under the Enhanced Student Grants-in-Aid Program for Poverty Alleviation (ESGP-PA), a cash-aid intended to support 4Ps beneficiaries in their college education. This scholarship was a game-changer for Archie, covering his tuition fees, providing a stipend, and giving him access to resources he previously could only dream of. With this support, Archie enrolled in Western Mindanao State University to pursue a degree in Criminology.

Life at university wasn’t without its difficulties. In order to provide for his family, Archie had to juggle his demanding school load with part-time work. He didn’t let the pressure get in the way of his mission. He was a hard worker, an enthusiastic participant in many school events, and an inspiration to his peers. His teachers and fellow students were impressed by his firmness and commitment.

Archie earned a degree in criminology after years of dedication and hardship. However, his adventure did not stop there. One of the most difficult tasks he had to complete was passing the Criminologist Licensure Examination. Despite the exam’s complexity and high stakes, Archie committed to a tough study schedule. His efforts were rewarded when he passed the board exam and became a licensed criminologist.

Archie’s achievement not only transformed his life but also served as an example for his siblings. He became an inspiration of hope for other young individuals facing similar hardships. With hope, Archie believes that he will soon have his own badge as a police officer.

Archie T. Toribio’s journey from poverty to professional success is a powerful example of how determination, coupled with the right support and guidance of his parents, Arnel P. Toribio and Ma. Teresa T. Toribio, former Parent Leader volunteer, can transform lives. Archie overcame major obstacles and realized his dreams with the help of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program and the ESGP-PA scholarship. His narrative serves as a testament to the impact of the educational support programs and the enduring strength of human spirit and the effectiveness of educational assistance programs.
