ZAMBOANGA CITY – Project Manicahan is the product of the continues effort of the 55th Special Action Company to contribute in the efforts to implement the End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) or dubbed as EO 70. With its primary aim to institutionalize the whole-of-nation approach in attaining inclusive and sustainable peace to combat the continuous rise of crime rates and terrorism in the society the projects create a safe space for groups and individuals in difficult to reach areas to have access to basic necessities. The project launch last August 19 at Barangay Manicahan’s covered court intends to start the long partnership with its residents and figures of authority.
The DSWD Field Office 9 has been invited to take part in the initiative, encouraged to assist on the provision of social services to the marginalized community. Among those invited were TESDA, DOH, Resident Doctor from Ciudad Medical Zamboanga, and JCI Zamboanga to take part in supporting the cause for the benefit of the barangay.
Following the launch, onthe Field Office was once again called to take part to assist six (6) puroks of the barangay that were identified as indigent and in need of immediate assistance. Puroks Morning Glory, Riverside, PLDT, Kampung Salamat, Baculud, and Seaside are composed of 1,146 families. These families, mostly of Islamic religion and where 90% of them rely on fishing and seaweed farming to generate income and sustain their families. DSWD came through and provided family food packs and hygiene kits to the families.
