The Municipality of Siocon’s representative emerged as the new winner of the Provincial Search for Exemplary Pantawid Child held on July 17, 2014 at Bamboo Garden, Dipolog City, Zamboanga Del Norte.
14 year old Von Glydel Micabalo daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rufino Micabalo, is an active and winning campus Journalist, Officer of the Supreme Student Government and member of various organizations in Julian Soriano Memorial Comprehensive High School (JSMCH). Her good performance in academics, active involvement in the community, skills and over-all contribution as a Pantawid Child beneficiary made her win the said search.
The search for Exemplary Pantawid Child is an annual activity of the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program which aims to recognize children beneficiaries who set examples in their households, schools and communities. It also aims to encourage children to be active citizens by complying the conditions of the program and to harness support from the different stakeholders.
The DSWD’s Provincial Operations Office (POO) of Zamboanga Del Norte gathered eighteen (18) pantawid children representing all municipalities to vie for the search in the presence of their parents, municipal links, cluster heads, guests and DSWD staff.
In his welcome note, Mr. Jose Cruz, Provincial Link of Zamboanga Del Norte commended all the young children of the program for their commitment and exemplary contributions and performances in their school and community. He also encouraged everyone to consider the search as an avenue of showcasing the real winners in them but not as a competition to be competed for.
The search had an individual exposition of talents and question and answer portion. Results garnered Cluster 1 D of Zamboanga del norte the highest scores emerging as landslide winners of the search with Von Glydel Micabalo of Municipality of Siocon as the Provincial winner, followed by Rose Ann Sanguila of Municipality of Baliguian and Sarah Mae Legasa of Municipality of Gutalac as 2nd and 3rd placers respectively.
The search for the Exemplary Pantawid Child in Zamboanga del Norte is already the last leg of the provincial search in Region 9. The provinces of Zamboanga del Sur , Sibugay and Zamboanga City cluster have already conducted and have named their provincial winners a month ago.
To qualify for the search, the child must be a beneficiary of Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program with the age ranging 10-14 preferably recommended by community leaders, their teacher or even by parent groups or by church groups; must be enrolled in school with compliant school attendance at least 85% from the previous school year and from the months of June-September; He or she must also have a good scholastic standing with no grades below the passing mark, non-repeaters; must be fully immunized and have been dewormed twice in 2013.
The winners of the search will represent their respective provinces in the National Children’s Congress (NCC) in October.##
