The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office IX added hues to the colorful celebration of pride and diversity in today’s Marcha de Orgullo 2026 in Zamboanga City as regional staff joined the parade for gender equality.

The streets of Asia’s Latin City were filled with colors, pride, and more importantly, loud campaigns promoting the protection and social welfare of the people with diverse genders assembling at Carmen Street, San Jose Gusu, all the way passing through the City Hall, and eventually concluding at Plaza Pershing, late this afternoon, June 25.

Grachelle Andrea Bello Guevarra, one of the champions of inclusivity in the Department says that joining the Pride March allows for the continued dialogues, promulgation, and passage of policies related to gender issues.

“Joining this year’s Marcha de Orgullo was not just a celebration, but a reminder that Pride is about visibility, dignity, and the right of every person to live freely and authentically. I was ecstatic to see both members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies during the march. This entails a hoeful tomorrow for Zamboanga, a city that embraces diversity and without fear of discrimination.”

Prior to this, in line with the Pride Month celebration, the DSWD established the Special Committee on LGBTQIA++ Affairs, a committee assigned to implement and oversee activities that will promote equality and protect the welfare of members of the community.

Several other activities were already conducted in the field office to ensure that the Department sustains a safe and inclusive environment both for the employees and its clientele.

The Special Committee on LGBTQIA++ Affairs shall continue to conduct seminars, orientations, and other activities throughout the year for a progressive community.
