For 11 years, Kalyn Tayco has quietly served where few are willing to go. A Registered Social Worker at the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), she has devoted more than a decade of her life to walking remote paths, crossing rivers, braving rough seas, and facing exhausting days all for the sake of the poor and underserved families of Zamboanga Sibugay.

Living with scoliosis, heart disease, and chronic asthma, Kalyn endures physical pain most days. But you wouldn’t hear her complain. Instead, she presses on carrying not just forms or reports, but comfort, kindness, and hope to every home she visits. From assessing families for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) to traveling to isolated sitios like Kabug Island, she chooses to show up, not because she has to but because she believes every family matters.

Kalyn has missed countless holidays and milestones with her own family, trading them for days spent with those in need. Still, she treats every mother, father, and child she meets like her own –offering not just services, but a listening ear and a warm presence.

She may be small in stature, but Kalyn’s strength is immeasurable. Her story is not about fame. It’s about quiet courage, unwavering dedication, and love in action. In a world that often values comfort, she chose compassion. And through her work, Kalyn reminds us of what true public service really means: to serve with heart, no matter the cost.
